Staff team and church leaders

We believe wholeheartedly in Every Member Ministering, and many of our regular worshippers are involved in ministry and service in the church, community, and further afield.

Rector: Rev’d Ian Birkinshaw

Ian sees his main role as being to help the church to be the church. He is married to Adele, and has two adult children. He joined All Saints and St Andrew's as Rector in 2008. Ian performs a dramatised version of the complete Gospel of Mark (gospelofmarklive.wordpress.com).

Associate Minister: Rev'd Chris Park

Youth and Children’s Leader: James Simister

James and his family joined the church in February 2012 and alongside volunteers is responsible for leading the church's youth and children's work (More info at www.allyouth.org). James is married to Katy and they have 3 children: Molly, Elliot & Toby. James also chairs Kidz Klub York, which is a small charity committed to outreach to children (www.kidzklubyork.com).


Lay Pastor: Joan Sargent

Joan joined the team in 2012 after working as the pastoral coordinator of the Spurriergate centre for 21 years. She is a Spiritual Director and a trained counsellor; she has an MA in evangelism.  She speaks fluent Lancashire and spent five years working in Afghanistan.


Parish Administrator: Alison Walters

Alison is our parish administrator and deals with all enquiries into the parish office based at St Andrew's Church from booking weddings, baptisms and funerals to writing the weekly notice sheet.  Helped by a fantastic team of volunteers, she also deals with community events and bookings.
